Job Task Analysis
The DACUM Process
The Developing a Curriculum, or DACUM, process is a proven and cost-effective method for analyzing jobs and occupations. It's been trusted for more than 40 years across 58 countries. It is a valuable tool for community colleges, companies, government agencies, and professional associations looking to build competency-based training programs, certifications, and human resource tools.
Through DACUM, a panel of expert workers collaborates with a skilled facilitator to define the precise duties, tasks, and competencies required for a particular job or occupation. This process uses industry-specific language, ensuring relevance and clarity, and supports the development of competency-based curricula, certifications, and performance assessments.
This process is designed to meticulously identify and delineate the knowledge and skills essential for success in a specific occupation through knowledge of regional labor market surveys, workforce reports, and job projection data.
Working with a DACUM facilitator
By conducting occupational analyses, the EARTh Center DACUM facilitators ensure that curricula are competency-based, up-to-date, and aligned with industry needs. They guide participants in creating a DACUM/job task analysis chart that outlines the tasks and competencies necessary for entry-level positions, ultimately developing an industry-validated program of instruction for training new workers in each occupation.
Working with a DACUM facilitator from the EARTh Center will help your organization analyze current jobs, adapt to new or emerging roles, cross-functional tasks, and processes. It's a versatile solution for many organizational needs.
